The Working Group on Agriculture (WGA) from the six countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), namely, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the People’s Republic of China, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Kingdom of Thailand, and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, convened in Da Nang, Viet Nam on 28-29 July 2016 for the 13th Annual Meeting of WGA (WGA AM-13).
NIRAS Finland Oy and Agrifood Consulting International have formed a consortium to provide regional technical assistance (TA 8163 funded by Asian Development Bank) supporting the implementation of Core Agriculture Support Program Phase II (CASP2).
The WGA reaffirmed the CASP2 vision for the GMS to be recognized as a leading producer of safe food, using climate friendly agricultural practices and integrated into the global market. The WGA noted enhanced opportunities for CASP2 engagement with the GMS Economic Cooperation through the GMS Regional Investment Framework.
The WGA acknowledged the importance of the development of the Strategy and Action Plan for promoting safe and climate-friendly agro-based value chain investments in the GMS, for notation by the 21st GMS Ministerial Conference in December 2016. The draft Strategy will go through national consultation with support from the ADB. The WGA acknowledged the continued support of the Government of Sweden, the Nordic Development Fund, and the ADB; and looks forward to working closely on the refocused and reprioritized activities toward the completion of CASP2.
The WGA thanks the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam for hosting WGA AM-13 and the WGA Secretariat for organizing the event.
